crumb cake // a recipe

today i am going to share my family's favorite recipe: crumb cake. it is an old war time recipe so it does not include eggs {which means that you can lick the spatula when you are finished. *smiles* }

Crumb Cake

ingredients:

3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 tsp salt
2 cups sour milk
1 tsp each baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla

mix flour, sugar, shortening, and salt. rub together as for pie crust.

set aside 1 cup of crumbs for later.

add milk, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla.

stir.

pour into a greased 13x9 pan.
sprinkle crumbs evenly on top.

bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

enjoy!

  1. Yum! Although we're in the habit of eating raw eggs anyways... if they come from our hens, that is.
