psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
therefore we will not fear,
even though the earth be removed,
and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
though its waters roar and be troubled,
though the mountains shake with its swelling...

what i wore // sweater

sweater // christmas gift
skirt // burlington coat factory
necklace // gift
shoes // goodwill

the weather is cooling down here, but i still want to wear skirts a lot. so, i wear leggings. does anyone else do this?
this skirt is probably one of my most comfortable skirts. it has some stretch to it so that i can still move around, but it is long and has nice stitching and a good color.

do you have a favorite, go-to skirt?

scratchings and tickings

autumn

the house is still except for the scratching of my pen and the ticking of the clock. i enjoy the quiet solitude of early mornings, soaking in the silence before the rush of the world reaches me. no other time of day is quite like this. things may quiet down, but it is not the same. there is just something about the beginning of the day that appeals to me. perhaps it is because, as anne said, it has no mistakes in it yet. the potential in each new day is something i enjoy, but i do not always take time to think about it.

what i wore // cowl

dress // goodwill
cowl // made by me
shoes // hand-me-down

i wore this on sunday, which was a fairly warm day for october, so i decided to go without socks or a sweater. i bought this dress at goodwill at the beginning of the summer, and i love it. not only is it my favorite color, but it is ultra-comfy. and handknits are always best, right? oh, and in the background? a shed being built in our yard. exciting stuff. to store our stuff.

hugs,
emily.

tea

steam rises from the mug nestled between my chilly fingers.
a slight scent emerges from it, holding in it a hint of blueberry.
i take a sip, enjoying the warm feeling that spreads through me.
sighing with delight, i lean back, content.
tea is just what i needed.

pumpkin whoopie pies

I woke up, glancing lazily out the window. I need to bake today. After breakfast, I began flipping through my mother's recipe book. Pumpkin whoopie pie. Well, it's about time I make sometime pumpkin flavored since it is autumn, after all. They were delicious. So I thought that I would give you all the recipe so that you can make your own.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

2 cups pumpkin
2 egg yolks
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. each cloves, cinnamon, ginger, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and vanilla
3 cups flour

Combine these ingredients until all dry ingredients are well blended in. Form into balls and place on baking sheets. Unless you want an odd one out, make sure that you make an even number. Bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes, longer if necessary.

Frosting:
While those are baking, beat stiff two egg whites. Add 2 tsp vanilla, 4 Tb flour, 2 Tb milk, 1/2 cup shortening, and 1 pound confectioners sugar. Mix well.

Once the outsides are done baking, let them cool, then evenly spread the frosting on one flat side of outside and place another half on top, making a sandwich. Continue until all of the outsides are gone.

Now enjoy the amazingness that you have just made.
