Precious memories

Precious memories, unseen angels,
Sent from somewhere to my soul.
How they linger, ever near me,
And the sacred past unfold.

Precious memories, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul.
In the stillness of the midnight,
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

As I travel on life's pathway,
Know not what the years may hold;
As I ponder, hope grows fonder,
Precious mem'ries flood my soul.

Precious memories, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul.
In the stillness of the midnight,
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

Journey to my homeland

This past week, my family and I visited my dad's side of the family in Canada where I was born. This post would be too long if I tried to describe our journey in full sentences, so I will content myself with lists.

Sunday was...

a six hour car ride
playing leapfrog on the side of the road
pretzel rods
discovering that my grandmother has a puppy obsession

Monday was...

campfire
ferry rides
giving a tour to my aunt's guests
reading

Tuesday was...

my cousin Tia spending the night with us
watching movies and knitting in the closet
Lydia, Tia and I eating a whole bag of chips and salsa while watching Persuasion (in the living room)
going barefoot

Wednesday was...

poutine
riding in my aunt's convertible
Anne of Green Gables musical songs
hiking
taking a tour of my ancestor's land
visiting a graveyard at 11:00 p.m.
more chips and salsa
marriage proposal videos
more movies in the closet
Christmas in July gifts
Dutch Blitz
finding answers to an old family mystery
ice cream in an old train station

All in all, it was a good trip full of reminiscing, food, golden sunlight, and laughter.

I am a book drunkard // Guest Post

Ah! Hello there.

I'm Hannah from Some Simple Pleasures, and I'm guest posting for Emily while she is off having a marvelous time at camp and leaving us all Emily-less ;)

Like I said, I'm Hannah. I'm not good at describing myself... let's see. I'm 17 years old. I'm a photographer. I'm also a Lego Robotics Coach, and I'm a senior in high school who wants to go to Liberty University online and major in government. But mostly, I just take pictures of people & things. I listen to too much Mumford & Sons and I definitely read more than I should.

"I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for it's devotee. I cannot withstand them."
-Lucy Maud Montgomery

I have a problem though. There are so many wonderful books to read and just not enough time to read them all in. Do you have that problem?

"But for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short."
-Jane Austen

I also read more than one book at a time. For example, right now I'm reading: 'The Return of the King' by J.R.R Tolkien, 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker, 'The Graveyard Book' by Neil Gaiman, 'The Crow' by Allison Croggon, and also 'The Case in Scarlet' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. And from what I can tell, all of them are excellent books so far ;)

What are some books that you're reading right now?

It was lovely writing this post, and I hope you enjoyed reading it.
Before I go I thought that I'd let you all know that I have a giveaway going on at my blog right now. The prize is a hand crocheted cotton market bag. Click here for the link

Thank you for reading!
-Hannah

"She is a real bookworm. I think she lives on print. Her whole house is full of books - looks as if she likes them better than human company."

dandelions

In the summers here the dandelions grow like crazy.  They are everywhere.  And on my way to our mailbox- which is a good piece from our home- dandelions, black-eyed susans, and purple weeds grow like bushes.  I've never had the patience or time to cultivate bushes of roses, beds of tulips, or bunches of dandelions.  I used to try to plant and most of what I planted would fail.  I used to wonder why.  I think some people have a gift and a love for growing domestic flowers.  And then some people have hearts that grow just as untamed as the wildflowers.  And that is where my heart belongs.
