yet another problem

i just bought this yarn online the other day.

it is half alpaca and part wool and silk and about 150 yards.

i really like it, but i have a problem. i want the project that i make with it to be extra special.

i may or may not have had a photoshoot with this skein of yarn.

do you have any project suggestions for me?

snow on daffodils

we received a little flurry of snow early yesterday morning. it is now gone. i knew that it would not last very long, so at 7:00 in the morning before i headed out for school, i snatched up my camera and took a few photos. it isn't all that often that we have snow and daffodils at the same time. *smiles*.

do you have snow? daffodils? both?

please pardon me

please pardon my excitement.

i just downloaded a jane austen handwriting font to my computer.

it's pretty amazing.

you can download it from here.

Emily Ruth Boyd

i would write this whole post in this font but it would be hard for you all to read. :)

now, if you do not mind, i am going to indulge in my love for and current obsession of jane austen:

what i wore // purple dress

what i wore:
dress // mardens
blue t-shirt // old navy
sweater // made by me
belt // hand-me-down

i only spent $5 on this dress. i love it. it's comfortable, long, purple, and easy to wear with pretty much anything. i had made this sweater a while ago but had forgotten about it. i wanted to wear it before the weather got too warm. {you can't see it very well, but i am wearing my cameo ring}

do you have any favorite outfits that you have worn lately?

my new favorite place

i sit here in my new favorite place -

the base of a never finished tree house.

{this photo is from a while ago when i first got my camera}

it consists of only a floor and a ladder, but that is enough. surrounded by trees on the edge of the woods, it is the perfect spot to sit and read, write, or just think.

the sounds of chirping birds and little girls' laughter is carried here by the soft breeze.

there is bark on my back, dirt on my skirt, and sap on my hands.

but i don't care.

with the house and road behind me, i can sit here in peace.

what i wore - red dress

i wore this dress to a wedding yesterday:

i made this dress in my fashion & fabrics class at school, and i really like it! i think it turned out pretty well considering that the most i had sewn before were skirts.

red dress // made by me
black belt // hand-me-down
necklace and earrings // avon
sandals // payless

you can't see it here, but i did my hair in a waterfall braid like this:

i had forgotten how easy this braid is to do. i think i will be doing it more often.

i hope you all had a good weekend!

iced tea and houndstooth

i don't know about you, but here the weather has been gorgeous. yesterday and today we left science class at school to go for a little walk. i spent yesterday afternoon doing homework and reading sitting in a rocking chair on our porch. today i sat on a large rock, drank iced tea, and read emma {side note: i'm almost done. today i read the proposal scene. oh.my.goodness. i love mr. knightley!!!!!!!!!!! sorry. i coudln't help it}.

it was lovely. after a really busy week last week, this week is much more relaxed, so i can enjoy this beautiful weather.

yesterday i wore my new houndstooth skirt that i bought at goodwill for $5.

and it has pockets!!

i was wearing a white turtleneck sweater with it, and at one point someone asked me why i was so dressed up and one of my friends replied, "she's always dressed up." it made me smile.

yesterday i walked down to the stream behind our house. the water level was pretty high, and i got some lovely bokeh.

what is your weather like right now?

do you live near a stream?
