Fall Fashion and some tutorials

Happy Friday! Also, happy 11-11-11!

Today because my older sister and I did not have to go to school (the rest of my siblings are homeschooled, as we used to be), we went on a field trip (photos hopefully coming soon). We visited a few of the places mentioned in a book that my mom had read out loud to my siblings. It was pretty cool since we got to drive by two houses that we used to live in and explore some parts of Maine that I had never seen before. Plus, we spent a lot of time in the van so I got a lot of knitting done. :) {you can see a photo of what my project, a doll sweater will hopefully look like here}

Now, for the Fall Fashion Challenge. Today's theme was Fall Trends. I chose plaid. I didn't get a photo of my complete outfit, but here it is in pieces:

It was really cold!

I wore this plaid shirt {minus the purple long sleeved shirt} underneath that pink sweatshirt in the above photo.

I have been inspired by some projects that I have seen recently! There are so many great ideas for Christmas gifts! Here are a few of my favorites:

Oh, Knitting

Miss Grace over at Grace's Garden Walk had a lovely post about knitting. It inspired me to write a little bit about knitting and include some tutorials in my post.

I love to knit.

I go through phases where I will knit constantly and then slack off for a little while, but I almost always have at least two projects going on at the same time (and very often more than that).

Right now I have about four projects in my room a more portable project in my school bag. Yes, I am the nerd sitting in the school library knitting and reading. :)

I love sitting and letting myself fall into the rhythm of clicking needles. The smooth yarn slides through my fingers as I count stitches. I enjoy watching the knitted work grow little by little the longer I sit.

For me, knitting is not work or a chore. I knit to make things for others.

I knit because it is cheaper to make handknits than buy them.

I knit because it feels old-fashioned and feminine.

I knit because I love to be creative.

But more than all, I knit just for the pure joy of knitting.

Now, for some tutorials.

Gabby over at Ambitious Homemaker posted this lovely tutorial on her blog a little while ago. I think these bows are so sweet! Gabby also posted a crochet version of this tutorial the other day if you are a crocheter.

Isn't this such a sweet headband?

This post by Lizzie is simply amazing. Do yourself a favor and read it! If you do, leave her a sweet little comment letting her know you stopped by.

My latest crafts

After reading Gabby's post showing photos of her earrings, I went out that afternoon and bought what I needed to make earrings. I had a lot of fun with these. I have already worn a couple pairs of them.

Just so you know, earrings really aren't hard to make. I actually used my brother's Leatherman instead of spending money to buy the special little pliers.

This is one of my favorite pairs. The circles are from some trim that my sister had that fell apart and I kept these circle thinking that they would come in handy someday. I was right!

It took me a while to figure out how to hook the hoops together and they're not perfect circle, but I still like them.

I don't really know what my thought process going into this pair was. I just saw some embroidery floss sitting there while holding the earring things. So...this happened.

I love these purple beads! They're just so cool!

My school's colors are green and white and we have a school assembly next week where we are supposed to wear green and white, so these will be perfect.

I have a lot of outfits that match these earrings, so I think I will wear these a lot.

Another one of my recent projects has been this:

This was my inspiration:

Yellow Mustard Cowl Scarf Neckwarmer with Vintage Buttons

It probably won't end up looking like this, but I want to make another one and style it after this cowl more.
