birthday

on sunday, i turned seventeen.
when i was younger, i used to think that teenagers were so old, wise, and all-knowing. but i don't feel old, i am not wise, and i am constantly discovering how much there is to know and how little i really do know. i don't feel prepared to handle big decisions that i need to make soon, decisions about college and life after high school. even with those things looming, i am still looking forward to enjoying things that don't scare me, things like family, singing, knitting, photography, flowers, books; things that i love and cherish. seventeen gives me enough time to savor things will also planning ahead. seventeen should be a good year. full of ups and downs, certainly, but still good.

what i wore // sailor

cardigan // made by me
blouse // hand-me-down
skirt // made by me
bobby pin // an etsy shop {i think it was chrome and cotton}

Whenever I wear this outfit, I am told that I remind someone of a sailor. Well, that works out well since I am linking up to Sarah and Samantha's fashion event and one of the day's themes in nautical.

So, I would like you all to know that I now have my driver's license! {for those unfamiliar with Maine's license system: you take driver's education, take a written test for your permit, drive for 35 hours and record them all, take a driving test, then, if you pass, you get your license}. I am very excited that I can now drive myself places. By myself. *smile*

I hope you lovely people have a fantastic day!
Hugs,
Emily.

sunflare and boots

i wore this outfit a few weeks ago, but i thought i would share it with you all.

{aren't tripods fun?}

gray sweater: hand-me-down
teal shirt: old navy
purple skirt: burlington coat factory
gray boots: hand-me-down

yes, i did wear high heeled boots in maine's weird snow/mud season...wouldn't you? :P

for my hair, i just braided the two front sections a little bit and bobby pinned them back. {did you know that you're supposed to use bobby pins with the bumpy side down?}

and now, i couldn't not include some of the sun flare that i captured:

do you ever wear high heeled boots in the winter?

Today

Today was a eat-Hershey's-kisses-while-hoping-for-snow-tomorrow kind of day.

Too much deliciousness is wrapped up in little silver wrappers adorned with paper tags with simple blue letters.

Know what I mean?

It was also a take-self-portraits kind of day.

Am I the only one who has those?

Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

What kind of day did you have today?

Let it go

I sit here writing after a long day. At school, I had to sit through a civil rights assembly that was all about not calling other people offensive names (basically pushing the world's agenda of accept everyone's beliefs as right). I had to work on a frustrating timeline for U.S.History (how does one put dates on "native cultures" or "globalization and technology"?). I did not have time to get my homeschool work done after school. My little sister was fussy. My to-do list has many unchecked items on it.

Pinned Image

However, I need to let it go and focus on the good things from today.
I was able to deliver a meal to a friend who lost her grandmother on Saturday. I had a good talk with my mom. The sun was shining and snow was covering the ground.

I am wearing my favorite skirt along with my favorite plaid jacket (they don't match, by the way). I just had some ice cream. My little sisters are pretty adorable.

Let it go.

Remember: God knows everything. I don't.
Ezekiel 37:3
"And He said to me, 'Son of man, can these bones live?' So I answered, 'O Lord GOD, You know.' "

Remember: God will help and strengthen me.
Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Remember: God is always with me.
Isaiah 41:13
For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, "Fear not, I will help you.' "

Revolution

After reading this post and this post from Grace's Garden Walk, I decided to share a little bit about myself with you all. (If you haven't read those posts or don't follow Grace's lovely blog, you should do so.)

This is me, Emily, with a messy bun and t-shirt on a Saturday morning. I very regularly talk too much and end up sticking my foot in my mouth (figuratively, of course). I am often amazed at God's forgiveness. I love to knit. I use sarcasm a lot. My eyes turn gray sometimes. Right now I am loving the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack ('05 versions; sorry, 1995 version fans). I speak too sharply when I am frustrated. My favorite pattern is plaid. I like orange juice. The nail polish on my fingernails is chipped. I am a tad OCD about my backpack. I left my camera at a family friend's house while in Canada last month (so I am borrowing my sister's; hey, my blog name is "borrowing photographs" :P). I love to sing. I love blogging.

This is me, and I am joining the revolution to be an authentic blogger. Will you join me?

Smiley faces

Hello, everyone!

Here is a hat that i knit recently. I really like the bow in it; it adds a really nice variation on an otherwise plain hat. You can get the free pattern here.

Okay, sales pitch for a free item is over now...:)

My sister showed me how to make my watermark bigger in Gimp! Yay! I am also proud of myself because I (who has absolutely no HTML knowledge at all) figured out how to add another accordion button to my sidebar. :)

If you haven't checked out my 365 Blog, you should. :)

^Hmm...the background is kind of bokeh-like...^

I just love this photo. ^_^ The colors, focus...I just love it.

And...then there's me. :) I pretty much just wanted the sun to be in the background because I love getting the sun in my photos. :)

Okay, now just one more smiley face...:) There. All good.

How was your day?

Today, I

Today, I:

~got "The Help" out from the library and I can't wait to read it!~

~am loving the Dick van Dyke show~

~am wearing striped knee socks with a knee length jean skirt~

~ate breakfast with my three year old sister before school~

~can't wait until we get some snow~

That's about all I did today, besides school. :)
