handmade Christmas gift ideas

since Christmas is quickly approaching, i am working on finishing up everyone's Christmas gifts. i make gifts for all of my family {10 people, besides me} and some of my friends. this year, i started knitting back in september. i think it's my best year yet for planning ahead. even with planning it all out, i still have a few people to craft for. here are a few projects that look like great last-minute gifts; i hope they help you, too!

october pinterest projects

Yesterday I spent my afternoon making t-shirt yarn and re-watching Downton Abbey season 2. Because I just cannot wait until January to see season 3. Oh, and I found a girl in my English class who is also obsessed with Downton Abbey. We can agonize over the long wait together. *smile*
Anyway...

I made t-shirt yarn!

I do not have a photo of this, but I made this headband:

What have you been crafting lately, lovelies? Besides this, I am busy knitting Christmas presents. I am about halfway through! *happy dance*

Emily.

april pinterest project

in case any of you did not know, i am trying to make at least one thing from pinterest every month this year as one of my 55 in 2012 goals. this was my project this month - a book cover.

i made this is my fashion and fabrics class at school {which is now, sadly, over}. i used fabric scrap from the class room. i was soooo excited to find enough of the houndstooth material to make the inside. *smiles*.

what are some of your current crafting projects?

what i wore // red stripes

lately i have really been enjoying this nice spring weather. i get to wear summer skirts which is always fun. i would say that warm weather makes me bring out my sandals, but since i have been known to walk to church in sandals when there is at least six inches of snow on the ground, that's not necessarily true. *smiles*.

what i wore
navy blue shirt // goodwill {originally old navy}
tank top // christmas tree shops
skirt // made by me
earrings // claire's

i made this skirt in my fashion and fabrics class {which is over, sadly}. i tried to follow a tutorial, but it was confusing because i could only print out the words, not the pictures, so it was confusing. thus, i made it up as i went along.

last night i made an anklet out of red and blue baker's twine. i really like how it turned out!

what have you been making or wearing lately?

p.s. make sure to check out my blog next week. :)

march pinterest project

i know this post is a bit late, but better late than never, right?

well, my pinterest project idea came from this pin:

looks simple, maybe for the choir raffle?

this is my bag:

i actually got the fabric, different fat quarter prints, from marden's, a store that sells things from stores that closed, for less than $5.

i messed up the elastic/button part of it because i made this in my home ec class at school so i had to print out just the words and not the photos so it got a little confusing. it turned out nice, though.

happy thursday, folks!

My new {handmade} shirt

Hello, everyone!

Today for the Scripture Memorization Challenge I memorized:

Ephesians 6:10-13
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this ago, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Now for the Fall Fashion Challenge. Today's challenge was to wear bold tights. However, I realized that the only people in my house who own tights are my five, three, and less than a year old younger sisters. So, I wore patterned knee socks instead. :)

Shirt: Hand-me-down
Tank top: Old Navy (I am wearing it backwards)
Denim Skirt: Made by Me
Argyle Knee Socks: Goodwill (no worries, they were brand new :P)

Today I made this shirt:

I had started it earlier with my sister Lydia, but today I hemmed up everything and made a belt. It is basically a rectangle with sleeves and a neck hole with a strip of material tied around it. It is made out of a jersey-knit material so it is nice and stretchy, not to mention really comfortable. :)

So, the lighting was good, I liked the shirt, and I had some free time. So, I had a little photoshoot with myself. :) Hello, tripod!

Silly powerlines...I kind of look like I'm sniffing them. :P

Happy Tuesday!

p.s. i am really happy because we have no school on Friday thanks to Veterans Day. *smiles*

Pinterest lovelies and Day 30

In my opinion, it is never too early to begin thinking and planning presents for Christmas, especially since I typically make all of my gifts. That's where pinterest and other blogs come in. :) So, here are some recipes, tutorials, and ideas that I have found lately:

Oh, and these are the bobby pins that I won. I love them!

For you crafters out there (or people who just like yarn) you can enter a survey here (scroll down the page) for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to a store like A.C. Moore or Hobby Lobby.

Here is a great tutorial for newspaper print nails:

I did my nails like this with my cousin this summer.
