fold. thump. turn. fold. thump. turn. fold. thump. turn.
over and over again.
fold. thump. turn.
quick-moving hands.
flour spread all over the counter.
a recipe card sits next to a bowl.
later on, I will let the bread dough rise then bake it.
but right now, i just
fold. thump. turn.
repeat.

birthday

on sunday, i turned seventeen.
when i was younger, i used to think that teenagers were so old, wise, and all-knowing. but i don't feel old, i am not wise, and i am constantly discovering how much there is to know and how little i really do know. i don't feel prepared to handle big decisions that i need to make soon, decisions about college and life after high school. even with those things looming, i am still looking forward to enjoying things that don't scare me, things like family, singing, knitting, photography, flowers, books; things that i love and cherish. seventeen gives me enough time to savor things will also planning ahead. seventeen should be a good year. full of ups and downs, certainly, but still good.

such a sweet and simple reminder.

summer in fall

i rock back and forth, clicking my needles. i look up, watching my siblings play and laugh happily. the sun shines down on us, radiating with warmth. cold weather is just around the corner, but today, a hint of summer sun is in the golden rays. even though i have lots of things to get done, i savor this little bit of summer in fall.

skirt // burlington coat factory

this is probably one of my favorite skirts. i can pair it with neutral and brightly colored tops. it goes with pretty much everything. plus, i can wear leggings under it on cold days without anyone noticing. *smile* oh, and it has sparkles...

God leads us along

Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in the darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.

Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.

"God Leads Us Along" by George A. Young

stark beauty

there is a stark beauty in nature once she has dropped the mantle of autumn onto the ground. sometimes it is hidden by our sorrow. we want to hold on to the flaming colors of fall a little longer and are sad when they disappear. there is still beauty; just a different kind. the bare branches show the simplicity and complexity that exist in intertwining lines. tree bark adds texture and depth to the forest screen. the forever faithful evergreen displays its greenery proudly, reminding us that Christmas is just around the corner and we will decorate our halls with her finery. all of this plays out against the backdrop of an overcast sky, delineating each little twig and branch that were hidden by glorious foliage not too long ago.

even though the leaves are gone, there is still beauty to be found.
